Why Linen?
Linen clothing is the ultimate wardrobe staple for anyone, but especially people with sensitive skin. It’s the fabrik of choice for a long day out & about, as it keeps you feeling fresh for longer because of its antiseptic/antibacterial properties - the hypoallergenic characteristics are perfect for anyone dealing with allergies, eczema or skin rashes.
Flax naturally fights fungi whereas, synthetic textiles such as (polyester, viscose, nylon, rayon, acrylic, acetate etc) inevitably aggravate skin sensitivities because they are essentially plastic and therefore accumulate moisture, creating an ideal environment for bacteria and microorganisms to thrive. Furthermore, chemicals are being added to synthetic fibers in order to market a fabrik as anti microbial.
Back in the day, it was widely known that linen sheets worked to promote healing and prevent disease; even bandages were made from linen! Linen can effectively suppress pathogenic bacteria and repels dirt. If you need a break from the stress of life, try the lovely, soothing effect linen gives!
Linen has longevity. It is the strongest fabrik fiber, durable & long lasting for decades, and even for generations. After each laundering, the fabrik fibers will soften as it washes out some of the pectin, giving it a softer hand. The flax fiber is tenacious, being 3X stronger than cotton. It is naturally lint resistant.
Linen is an anti-inflammatory fiber. It’s antistatic meaning, it cannot hold an electric charge which is really helpful in reducing chronic inflammation. In contrast, polyester/DBP tends to be very prone to static! Consider the benefits of wearing a linen slip for anti static purposes.
Linen is a natural fiber that helps to encourage blood flow & energize the body’s systems in stark contrast to double brushed poly, which is derived from petroleum/plastics and are depleting the body of energy. Linen does not absorb any odors, whereas DBP may hold a body odor in the armpits or the entire dress, even after washing. Linen on the other hand, can be worn a couple times before washing!
Linen has a frequency of 5,000 HZ. The human body has a frequency of 100 HZ, as does cotton. Choose organic cotton as its a crop frequently sprayed with plenty of pesticides which can still be absorbed into your skin. However, linen is better than cotton by far. Wool also has a frequency of 5000 HZ. However, if you combine wool and linen fibers, the frequency goes down to zero, just as is mentioned in Leviticus. Like magnetic energy that cancels out. Fabrik Attik is stocking more linen than wool as there are more prints, colors, and price point options available.
Linen is an eco-friendly fabrik crafted from flax fibers. Flax is a drought tolerant & bug resistant crop, and not normally sprayed with pesticides, making them very hypoallergenic, even if not certified organic. Preferably look for linen fabriks from the flax belt in Europe, basically any European linen. When you wear linen, the bugs will continue to be repelled from you! A bonus indeed.
Linen is sustainable. Flax plants typically need 60% less water than a cotton crop. Every part of the flax plant can be used to make linen so there is zero waste. Even if you actually did manage to wear out a quality linen garment, you could bury it in your garden because it’s completely biodegradable and it would not be adding to the global plastic waste problem.
Linen is breathable. The breathability of linen is phenomenal in moisture wicking or, pulling moisture from the skin on a hot day. It wicks and absorbs the moisture from your skin, absorbing up to 20% -30% of it’s weight in moisture before you can even notice that it looks wet. It enhances evaporation, this quick drying characteristic makes it a comfortable outfit, ideal for layering in the change of seasons. There are also varying weights of linen available if you prefer a dress weight or a bottom weight.
Linen is thermal regulating. This is the fabrik for you if you are normally always hot. It is ALSO the perfect fabrik for you if you are normally always cold! Linen can be layered to perfection for your personal thermostat. Also consider the gsm of fabrik for the season. The Fabrik Attik stocks some linen at 120 GSM all the way up to 240 GSM. Feel the difference!
Linen can give you a massage! Linen fabrik has microscopic breaks in it which are credited for offering a subtle massaging effect on the skin which helps our bodies relax. It’s soothing and relaxing to wear linen. Try a pillow case!
Linen can be used to create a capsule wardrobe that ages well and is cost efficient when you consider that you are wearing the linen pieces longer than any polyester piece. I have a friend who has had a linen garment, for 10 years and still looking fine! The first year you may need to have the perspective of linen being an investment as quality has rarely been the cheapest on the market. Each year will give more opportunity to add to your capsule wardrobe, and with proper care linen will look nice and live on. Together we can erode the market for fast fashion, a pathetic excuse for clothing. See fast fashion handout to understand why this matters.
Linen takes dye very well, because of this, you also need to be aware to treat stains as soon as possible to avoid it settling in the fibers. While linen is colorfast, direct sunlight for extended periods of time can cause fading so be sure to hang dry in the shade or limit sun exposure. Of course, follow the normal laundry rules, whites with whites and darks with darks.
Linen has a natural, textured beauty with no need to iron if you hang to dry; unless you are THE Mrs. Jones… then you may find yourself needing to iron to your standards though, the texture will return even after ironing. A flowing skirt will not appear wrinkly, however, lovely attributes of linen really outweigh any minor steaming or ironing that may be necessary at times. If it really bothers you during the adjustment-to-linen-period, try tossing your linen garment into the dryer with one ice cube. This will create a little steam and thereby take any wrinkles out; remove from the dryer promptly.
NEVER, never shake linen fabrik! It has the capacity to hold many pathogens but there’s no need to fluff them into the air, lowering the air quality; even if it’s freshly laundered.
Wash linen in cool water, with a natural soap; avoid bleach and softeners as these will coat the fibers with synthetics and void their beneficial qualities. Line dry or tumble dry low to avoid damaging or shrinking the linen fibers.
